The Redwoods Park area is actually made up of a number of state and national parks that all sort of run together. We visited a few of the state parks and the national park.
Although we knew Redwoods were big, it is honestly hard to imagine just how big some of these trees can get. It seemed like just when we had found a tree that we thought was really big, an even bigger one was just around the corner. The trees are very wide, as you can see in the pictures. However, it is really the height that is most impressive. At times the trees were so incredibly tall that it was literally dizzying to try to look up at them. These huge and ancient behemoths really make you feel like you are back in time, and it truly is an incredible place.
We found that the most impressive trees were in the Tall Trees Grove area of the national park. This area has a large number of very tall redwoods, which means that are REALLY tall since they are already tall to begin with. This area was made even more enjoyable by the large number of banana slug sightings and beautiful flowers in the area as well. Anne is officially the better banana slug tracker, but Winston found his fair share as well.
