Following Redwoods we made a quick stop for the day in Chico, CA to visit the Sierra Nevada brewery. The drive from Redwoods to Chico took us through incredibly beautiful mountain scenery and was also fairly fun due to the incredibly curvy mountain roads. Certainly an area of the country we would consider returning to visit some day.
After a delicious meal in the taproom/restaurant we took a tour of the brewery. Let me tell you, this is probably the most beautiful (if that is the right word) brewery we have seen yet. Everything is classically decorated with polished wood and marble, the brewing areas themselves are spotless, the machinery polished, the walls have beautiful brewing themed artwork, and just all around a very snazzy place. After the official tour Winston met with Carrie in HR to talk about possible jobs with Sierra Nevada (which would be AWESOME), and take an even better tour! He and Carrie strolled around the brewery including a trip to the rooftop catwalk to see some of the 10,004 solar panels and 4 fuel cells Sierra Nevada uses to produce most of their energy. After the roof it was right down to the floor of the packaging area to check out the keging and bottling operation, which was amazing to see in action. Once again the entire space was spotless, the machinery immaculate, and all of the employees seemed to be smiling (who wouldn’t!?).
Sierra Nevada is a great company that makes incredible beer and does so in a very environmentally and socially responsible manner. It would be a great company to work for!
